It was such a comfort during the night knowing that someone was with me so Dave could rest….and during the morning when things got really intense, having another pair of eyes and ears to comfort and help guide us was so great. “We made a somewhat late decision to have a doula. It was going to be our first child, and we were a bit nervous about it. Therefore, my husband and I agreed that we would consider a doula only if we were comfortable with her.
After a couple meetings with Alta we were reassured that we could depend on her and that she would work as our advocate. From the very beginning, she treated us with respect, and expressed words of encouragement about the birth. In our conversations, she was always positive, warm and easy going.
Alta guided us through a challenging 55 hour labor and delivery. Her patience, and rock solid emotional support during those arduous long hours of labor was crucial. She was very knowledgeable of the procedures being performed, and kept us informed about what was to be expected. She also provided invaluable insights for relaxation, massage, breathing techniques and positive reinforcement. During a difficult series of contractions, I felt that I couldn’t take it anymore, and I vividly recall her holding my hands and asking me to look into her eyes and breath with her. This simple exercise of eye contact helped me tremendously to regain the focus on my breath. There were many critical moments like this one, and with Alta’s guidance we were able to do it one contraction at a time.
Alta is an amazing professional; she is a loving, dedicated and caring individual. We feel extremely lucky that she played such an important part in the most beautiful event of our lives. I am therefore very pleased to highly recommend Alta; she is an outstanding doula.” - Lauren
